Tonel named Ipil Prelate

Bishop-elect Julius Sullan Tonel was named Prelate of Ipil, Philippines. The prelature had been vacant since then-Bishop Antonio Javellana Ledesma, S.J. was named Archbishop of Cagayan de Oro in March 2006.

Remigius named Kottar Bishop

Bishop Peter Remigius was named Bishop of Kottar, India. The diocese had been vacant since the death of Bishop Leon Augustine Tharmaraj in January 2007. Bishop Remigius had been serving as Bishop of Kumbakonam.

Mulhall named Pembroke Bishop

Bishop-elect Michael Mulhall was named Bishop of Pembroke, Ontario, Canada. The diocese had been vacant since then-Bishop Richard William Smith was named Archbishop of Edmonton in March 2007.

Huzsvár retired as Zrenjanin Bishop

Bishop László Huzsvár retired as Bishop of Zrenjanin, Serbia.

Galli resigned as Fidenza Bishop

Bishop Maurizio Galli resigned as Bishop of Fidenza, Italy.

Archbishop Alojzij Šuštar, Archbishop Emeritus of Ljubljana, Slovenia, has died. He was 86 years old and had served as a priest for 60 years and as a bishop for 27 years. May he rest in peace.

Mendoza de Leon named Antipolo Auxiliary

Bishop-elect Francisco Mendoza de Leon was named an Auxiliary Bishop of Antipolo, Philippines and titular bishop of Boseta.

Odongo retired, Kiwanuka Lote named Tororo Archbishop

Archbishop James Odongo retired and Archbishop-designate Denis Kiwanuka Lote was named Archbishop of Tororo, Uganda. Archbishop-designate Kiwanuka Lote had been serving as Bishop of Kotido.

Fajardo Bustamante named San José de Mayo Bishop

Bishop-elect Arturo Eduardo Fajardo Bustamante was named Bishop of San José de Mayo, Uruguay. The diocese had been vacant since Bishop Pablo Jaime Galimberti di Vietri was named Bishop of Salto in May 2006.

Bishop Ângelo Domingos Salvador, O.F.M. Cap. retired and Aloísio Alberto Dilli, O.F.M. was named Bishop of Uruguaiana, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

Foley retired, Celli named Social Communications President

Archbishop John Patrick Foley retired and Archbishop Claudio Maria Celli was named President of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications. Archbishop Celli had been serving as Secretary of Administration of the Patrimony of the Apostolic See.

Bishop Koppmann Died

Bishop Rudolf Johannes Maria Koppmann, O.M.I., Vicar Apostolic Emeritus of Windhoek, Namibia, has died. He was 94 years old and had served as a priest for 69 years and as a bishop for 50 years. May he rest in peace.

Bishop Dubigeon Died

Bishop Yves-Maria Guy Dubigeon, Bishop Emeritus of Sées, France, has died. He was 80 years old. He died less than a week before the 54th anniversary of his ordination as a priest. He also served as a bishop for 20 years. May he rest in peace.

Bishop Jacques Mbali, Bishop Emeritus of Buta, Congo (Dem. Rep.), has died. He was 86 years old and had served as a priest for 59 years and as a bishop for 45 years. May he rest in peace.

Cardinal Felici Died

Angelo Cardinal Felici, President Emeritus of the Pontifical Commission "Ecclesia Dei", has died. He was 87 years old and had served as a priest for 65 years and as a bishop for 39 years. His 19th anniversary of being created a Cardinal was in less than two weeks away. May he rest in peace.

Bishop Akio Johnson Mutek was named Bishop of Torit, Sudan. The diocese had been vacant since the resignation of Bishop Paride Taban in February 2004. Bishop Mutek had been serving as an Auxiliary Bishop of the same diocese.

Józef Cardinal Glemp retired and Archbishop Kazimierz Nycz was named Bishop of Poland, Faithful of Eastern Rites.

Filoni named Sostituto

Archbishop Fernando Filoni was named Substitute (Sostituto) of the Secretariat of State. He had been serving as Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines.

Daoud retired, Sandri named Oriental Churches Prefect

Ignace Moussa I (Basile) Cardinal Daoud retired and Archbishop Leonardo Sandri was named Prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches. Archbishop Sandri had been serving as Substitute (Sostituto) of the Secretariat of State.

Bishop Kamal Hanna Bathish retired as Auxiliary Bishop of Gerusalemme {Jerusalem}, Palestine.

Bishop Forst Died

Bishop Marion Francis Forst, Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus of Kansas City in Kansas, Bishop Emeritus of Dodge City, and titular bishop of Leavenworth, has died. He was 96 years old. He passed away a week before the 73rd anniversary of his priestly ordination. He served as a bishop for 47 years. He was the oldest US bishop and the 13th oldest bishop in the world. May he rest in peace.

Pain Ratu retired, Saku named Atambua Bishop

Bishop Anton Pain Ratu, S.V.D. retired and Bishop-elect Dominikus Saku was named Bishop of Atambua, Indonesia.

Shendam, Nigeria erected, Daman named Bishop

The Diocese of Shendam, Nigeria was erected with territory taken from the Archdiocese of Jos. Bishop James Naanman Daman, O.S.A. was named its first bishop. He had been serving as Bishop of Jalingo.

Archbishop Brendan Michael O'Brien was named Archbishop of Kingston, Ontario, Canada. The Archdiocese had been vacant since the death of Archbishop Anthony Giroux Meagher in January 2007. Archbishop O'Brien had been serving as Archbishop of Saint John's, Newfoundland.
