Doggale named Juba Auxiliary

Bishop-elect Santo Loku Pio Doggale was named Auxiliary Bishop of Juba, Sudan and titular bishop of Bulna.

Please note that the titular see will likely change as it was previously assigned to Bishop-elect Jan Sobiło last month.

Bunda, Tanzania erected; Nkwande named Bishop

The Diocese of Bunda, Tanzania was erected with territory taken from the Diocese of Musoma and the Archdiocese of Mwanza.

Bishop-elect Renatus Leonard Nkwande was named its first bishop.

Alonge retired, Arogundade succeeded as Ondo Bishop

Bishop Francis Folorunsho Clement Alonge retired and Bishop Jude Ayodeji Arogundade succeeded as Bishop of Ondo, Nigeria.

Bishop Arogundade had been serving as Coadjutor Bishop of the same diocese.

This retirement and succession was previously reported in error back in May of this year.

Archbishop-designate D’Rozario had been serving as Bishop of Chittagong.

Bishop Valech Aldunate died

Bishop Sergio Valech Aldunate, Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus of Santiago de Chile, has died.

He was 83 years old and had served as a priest for 57 years and as a bishop for 37 years.

Mamede Filho named Umuarama Bishop

The diocese had been vacant since Bishop Vicente Costa was named Bishop of Jundiaí in December 2009.

Bishop Mamede Filho had been serving as Auxiliary Bishop of São Paulo.

Bishop George Otto Wirz, Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus of Madison, Wisconsin, USA, has died.

He was 81 years old and had served as a priest for 58 years and as a bishop for 32 years.

May he rest in peace.

Gmür named Basel Bishop

Bishop-elect Felix Gmür was named Bishop of Basel, Switzerland.

The diocese had been vacant since then-Bishop Kurt Koch was named President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity in July 2010.

Cardinal Navarrete Cortés Died

Urbano Cardinal Navarrete Cortés, S.J., Priest of the Society of Jesus and Cardinal-Deacon of S. Ponziano, has died.

He was 90 years old and had served as a priest for 58 years and would have celebrated 3 years as a cardinal on Wednesday.

May he rest in peace.

With his death and the recent consistory, there are now 121 Cardinal Electors out of 202 living Cardinals.

Di Mauro named Vigevano Coadjutor

Archbishop-designate Vincenzo Di Mauro was named Coadjutor Bishop of Vigevano, Italy and given the personal title of Archbishop.

Archbishop-designate Di Mauro had been serving as Secretary of the Prefecture for the Economic Affairs of the Holy See.

The post had been vacant since Archbishop Giovanni d’Aniello was Apostolic Nuncio to Thailand in September 2010.

Archbishop Yllana had been serving as Apostolic Nuncio to Pakistan.
