Archbishop Hannan Died

Archbishop Philip Matthew Hannan, Archbishop Emeritus of New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, has died.

He was 98 years old and had served as a priest for 71 years. He had also served as a bishop for 55 years and had attended all 4 sessions of the Second Vatican Council.

May he rest in peace.

The archdiocese had been vacant since Archbishop Murilo Sebastião Ramos Krieger, S.C.I. was named Archbishop of São Salvador da Bahia in January 2011.

Archbishop-designate Jönck had been serving as Bishop of Tubarão.

Gualberti Calandrina named Santa Cruz de la Sierra Coadjutor

Archbishop-designate Sergio Alfredo Gualberti Calandrina was named Coadjutor Archbishop of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia.

Archbishop-designate Gualberti Calandrina had been serving as Auxiliary Bishop of the same archdiocese.

The archdiocese had been vacant since the death of Archbishop Józef Mirosław Życiński in February 2011.

Archbishop-designate Budzik had been serving as Auxiliary Bishop of Tarnów.

Bishop-elect Barthélemy Adoukonou, Secretary of the Pontifical Council for Culture, was named Titular Bishop of Zama Minor.

He has been serving as Secretary since December 2009.

Cardinal Deskur Died

Andrzej Maria Cardinal Deskur, President Emeritus of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications, has died.

He was 87 years old and had served as a priest for 61 years. He had also served as a bishop for 37 years and as a cardinal for 26 years.

May he rest in peace.

Lajolo retiring, Bertello named Vatican City State President

Effective 1 October, Giovanni Cardinal Lajolo will retire and Archbishop Giuseppe Bertello will become President of the Governatorate of Vatican City State and President of the Pontifical Commission for Vatican City State.

Archbishop Bertello is currently serving as Apostolic Nuncio to Italy.
