The diocese had been vacant since the resignation of Bishop Janusz Wiesław Kaleta in July 2014.

Bishop Dell’Oro had been serving as Apostolic Administrator of Atyrau.

The Eparchy of Asmara (Eritrean), Eritrea was elevated to a Metropolitan Archeparchy.

Archbishop-designate Menghesteab Tesfamariam, M.C.C.I. was named its first Archbishop. He had been serving as Bishop of the same jurisdiction.

The Eparchies of Barentu, Keren, and Segheneity become suffragans of the new Archeparchy.

Erected: Bahir Dar - Dessie (Ethiopian); Semahun named Bishop

The Eparchy of Bahir Dar - Dessie (Ethiopian), Ethiopia was erected with territory taken from Addis Abeba.

Bishop Lisane-Christos Matheos Semahun was named its first Bishop. He had been serving as Auxiliary Bishop of Addis Abeba.

The post had been vacant since Archbishop Bernardito Cleopas Auza was named Apostolic Nuncio to United Nations in July 2014.

Archbishop Nugent had been serving as Apostolic Nuncio to Madagascar, to Mauritius, to Seychelles, and Apostolic Delegate to Comoros.

Barros Madrid named Osorno Bishop

Bishop Juan de la Cruz Barros Madrid was named Bishop of Osorno, Chile.

The diocese had been vacant since then-Bishop René Osvaldo Rebolledo Salinas was named Archbishop of La Serena in December 2013.

Bishop Barros Madrid had been serving as Bishop of Chile, Military.
