Archbishop Pedro Claro Meurice Estiu retired and Archbishop-designate Dionisio Guillermo García Ibáñez was named Archbishop of Santiago de Cuba. Archbishop-designate García Ibáñez had been serving as Bishop of Santisimo Salvador de Bayamo y Manzanillo.
