Calicut elevated to Archdiocese, Chakkalakal named Archbishop

The diocese of Calicut, India was elevated to an Archdiocese.

Archbishop-designate Varghese Chakkalakal was named the first Archbishop.

The dioceses of Kannur and Sultanpet will become its suffragans.
