15 million visits, viewing 100 million pages
The main website passed two major milestones in the past week. A week ago today, the site had its 15 millionth visit. Then yesterday, the site passed 100 million pages viewed.
The site began long ago, you can find a history and timeline in an earlier post.
Until the site got its own domain - on the Feast of Blessed Damien de Veuster (10 May 2002) no logs and very few stats were available. On that first day, there were 45 visits - viewing 495 pages.
So the milestones I mentioned above are based on stats beginning on that day - not quite 8.5 years ago.
Over the years the site has greatly expanded in content and in users.
All I can say is Thank You!

Another Random Cardinal Chart
After posting the previous charts, someone asked a good question: how many Cardinals are created per year?
The Chart (Warning: PDF format)
So I ran the numbers and created a new chart showing the number of Cardinals created per papacy and the average number of Cardinals created per year.
The result is that beginning with the 17th century, the number of Cardinals created per year was around 4 until about 50 years ago. There was one obvious exception, Pope Alexander VIII (who averaged 10.77).
Beginning with Pope John XXIII, the average has been just under 9 per year. Pope Benedict XVI is current just over 7 per year.
(The overall answer is an average of 4.6 Cardinals created per year over the last 400 years.)

Version 2.6.4
I've done some work on the code today. The changes are mostly internal and will allow me do some more analysis of cardinals over time. There are two visible changes. On the page for someone that was created a cardinal and then later resigned that dignity, the length of service as a cardinal is now correct.
The second change is that on the Pope pages, there is a new column named "Conclave Start" which has the date and a link to the page for that conclave (if I have one on the site).
If you happen to see any strange side effects (probably involving cardinals), please let me know via the usual feedback page.

Technical Note regarding Voting Cardinals
While doing some research I discovered that my wording on the website relating to the age of a cardinal and his right to vote in a conclave was not accurate. I'm in the process of updating the wording on the site.
The old wording was:
(Source: #33, Universi Dominici Gregis, by Pope John Paul II, on 22 Feb 1996)
The old wording was:
Cardinals under the age of 80 at the time the Holy See becomes vacant may vote in a conclave. The new wording is:
Cardinals that reach the age of 80 before the Holy See becomes vacant may not vote in a conclave. It may not seem like that big of a change, but there is one important distinction. If the Cardinal turns 80 years old on the same day that the Holy See becomes vacant, he does retain the right to vote in the subsequent conclave.
