Bishop Aurelio Pesoa Ribera, O.F.M. was named Vicar Apostolic of El Beni o Beni, Bolivia.

The Vicariate had been vacant since the retirement of Bishop Julio María Elías Montoya, O.F.M. in February 2020.

Bishop Pesoa Ribera had been serving as Auxiliary Bishop of La Paz.

14 New Cardinals Named

This morning the Holy Father announced 14 new Cardinals will be created on 29 June 2018.

To Be Created Cardinal:
Count: 11; Average Age: 68.6

To Be Created Cardinal (Non-Voting):
Count: 3; Average Age: 82.6

With the addition of the 14 new Cardinals on 29 June 2018, there will be 227 members total with 125 of those having the right to vote. Assuming no Cardinal elector deaths, the number of electors will return to the theoretical maximum of 120 on 1 Aug 2019.

Archbishop Konrad Krajewski, Papal Almoner, will become the second youngest Cardinal at age 54. Dieudonné Cardinal Nzapalainga, C.S.Sp., Archbishop of Bangui, Central African Republic, will remain the youngest at 51.

The post had been vacant since Archbishop Giambattista Diquattro was named Apostolic Nuncio to India in January 2017.
