Gomes named Sylhet Bishop

Bishop Shorot Francis Gomes was named Bishop of Sylhet, Bangladesh.

The diocse had been vacant since then-Bishop Bejoy Nicephorus D’Cruze, O.M.I. was named Archbishop of Dhaka in September 2020.

Bishop Gomes had been serving as Auxiliary Bishop of Dhaka.

Howlader named Chattogram Archbishop

Archbishop-designate Lawrence Subrata Howlader, C.S.C. was named Archbishop of Chattogram, Bangladesh.

The archdiocese had been vacant since the death of Archbishop Moses Montu Costa, C.S.C. in July 2020.

Archbishop-designate Howlader had been serving as Bishop of Barisal.

Chittagong elevated to Archdiocese; Costa named Archbishop

The diocese of Chittagong, Bangladesh was elevated to a Metropolitan Archdiocese with the dioceses of Barisal and Khulna as suffragans.

Archbishop-designate Moses M. Costa, C.S.C. was named its first Archbishop. He had been serving as the Bishop of the same jurisdiction.

Bishop Lawrence Subrata Howlader, C.S.C. was named its first bishop.

He had been serving as Auxiliary Bishop of Chittagong.

The post had been vacant since Archbishop Joseph Salvador Marino was named Apostolic Nuncio to Malaysia in January 2013.
