Today Pope Francis indicated that he intends to create 21 new Cardinals on 7 December 2024. Here is the list:

Bishop Đuro Gašparović resigned and Bishop Fabijan Svalina succeeded as Bishop of Srijem, Serbia.

Fazekaš named Subotica Bishop

Bishop-elect Ferenc Fazekaš was named Bishop of Subotica, Serbia.

The diocese had been vacant since the death of Bishop Alojzije Slavko Večerin in August 2022.

Hočevar retired, Nemet named Beograd Archbishop

Archbishop Stanislav Hočevar, S.D.B. retired and Archbishop-designate Ladislav Nemet, S.V.D. was named Archbishop of Beograd (-Smederevo), Serbia.

Archbishop-designate Nemet had been serving as Bishop of Zrenjanin.

Suriani named Bulgaria Nuncio

Archbishop Luciano Suriani was named Apostolic Nuncio to Bulgaria.

The post had been vacant since the retirement of Archbishop Anselmo Guido Pecorari in December 2021.

Archbishop Suriani had been serving as Apostolic Nuncio to Serbia.

Prizren elevated to Diocese; Gjergji as Bishop

The Apostolic Administration of Prizren was elevated to the Diocese of Prizren-Prishtina, Serbia.

Bishop Dodë Gjergji was named its Bishop.

He had been serving as Apostolic Administrator of the same jurisdiction.

Antonini retired, Suriani named Serbia Nuncio

Archbishop Orlando Antonini retired and Archbishop Luciano Suriani was named Apostolic Nuncio to Serbia.

He had been serving as Apostolic Nuncio to Paraguay.

The former Diocese of Djakovo o Bosna i Srijem

The former Diocese of Djakovo o Bosna i Srijem has been split into the newly elevated Archdiocese of Djakovo-Osijek and the Diocese of Srijem.

Archbishop-designate Martin Srakić was named the ordinary of the new Archdiocese. He had been serving as the ordinary of the formerly combined Diocese.

Bishop Djuro Gašparović was named the ordinary of the new Diocese. He had been serving as an Auxiliary Bishop of the formerly combined Diocese.

Német named Zrenjanin Bishop

Bishop-elect Lázló Német, S.V.D. was named Bishop of Zrenjanin, Serbia. The diocese had been vacant since the retirement of Bishop László Huzsvár in June 2007.

Archbisho Perko Died

Archbishop Franc Perko, Archbishop Emeritus of Beograd (-Smederevo), Serbia, has died. He was 78 years old and had served as a priest for 54 years and as a bishop for 21 years. May he rest in peace.

Huzsvár retired as Zrenjanin Bishop

Bishop László Huzsvár retired as Bishop of Zrenjanin, Serbia.
