Alves Aguiar named Setúbal Bishop

Bishop Américo Manuel Alves Aguiar was named Bishop of Setúbal, Portugal.

The diocese had been vacant since Bishop José Ornelas Carvalho, S.C.I. was named Bishop of Leiria-Fátima in January 2022.

Bishop Alves Aguiar had been serving as Auxiliary Bishop of Lisboa {Lisbon}.

He is also expected to be elevated to a Cardinal on 30 Sep 2023.

Today Pope Francis indicated that he intends to create 21 new Cardinals on 30 Septemeber 2023. Here is the list:

Cardinal-Designates:

Count: 18; Average Age: 63.7

Cardinal-Designates (Non-Voting):

Count: 3; Average Age: 87.9

Esteves Domingues named Angra Bishop

Bishop Armando Esteves Domingues was named Bishop of Angra, Portugal.

The diocese had been vacant since Bishop João Evangelista Pimentel Lavrador was named Bishop of Viana do Castelo in September 2021.

Bishop Esteves Domingues had been serving as Auxiliary Bishop of Porto.

14 New Cardinals Named

This morning the Holy Father announced 14 new Cardinals will be created on 29 June 2018.

To Be Created Cardinal:
Count: 11; Average Age: 68.6

To Be Created Cardinal (Non-Voting):
Count: 3; Average Age: 82.6

With the addition of the 14 new Cardinals on 29 June 2018, there will be 227 members total with 125 of those having the right to vote. Assuming no Cardinal elector deaths, the number of electors will return to the theoretical maximum of 120 on 1 Aug 2019.

Archbishop Konrad Krajewski, Papal Almoner, will become the second youngest Cardinal at age 54. Dieudonné Cardinal Nzapalainga, C.S.Sp., Archbishop of Bangui, Central African Republic, will remain the youngest at 51.
