Archbishop Hannan Died

Archbishop Philip Matthew Hannan, Archbishop Emeritus of New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, has died.

He was 98 years old and had served as a priest for 71 years. He had also served as a bishop for 55 years and had attended all 4 sessions of the Second Vatican Council.

May he rest in peace.

Budzik named Lublin Archbishop

Archbishop-designate Stanisław Budzik was named Archbishop of Lublin, Poland.

The archdiocese had been vacant since the death of Archbishop Józef Mirosław Życiński in February 2011.

Archbishop-designate Budzik had been serving as Auxiliary Bishop of Tarnów.

Cardinal Deskur Died

Andrzej Maria Cardinal Deskur, President Emeritus of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications, has died.

He was 87 years old and had served as a priest for 61 years. He had also served as a bishop for 37 years and as a cardinal for 26 years.

May he rest in peace.

Lajolo retiring, Bertello named Vatican City State President

Effective 1 October, Giovanni Cardinal Lajolo will retire and Archbishop Giuseppe Bertello will become President of the Governatorate of Vatican City State and President of the Pontifical Commission for Vatican City State.

Archbishop Bertello is currently serving as Apostolic Nuncio to Italy.

Sciacca named Governatorate of Vatican City State Secretary General

Bishop-elect Giuseppe Sciacca was named Secretary General of the Governatorate of Vatican City State and titular bishop of Victoriana.
